Welcome to Alabama American Legion Baseball's website!

American Legion Baseball is a competitive program primarily comprised of high school ball players that want to compete after the school baseball season ends.  However, unlike travel and showcase baseball, all American Legion baseball coaches are vetted by a criminal background check.  American Legion registered teams come with liability and supplemental medical insurance as well access to a free robust software program to track player rosters, pitcher pitch counts, team wins and losses.  We work with teams to develop their play schedules against other area American Legion teams.

American Legion baseball costs a fraction of the expense to play summer travel baseball. Our focus is basic civics, sportsmanship and Americanism while playing our National game.  We are reinforcing respect to our flag, the rights and privilege of being a citizen in this great nation and respect for those that pay the price of freedom.  We play the National Anthem before each game and encourage Legionnaires and other veterans to attend the games and wear Legion or service caps and talk to the players and parents to support and encourage them to be responsible citizens.

American Legion Baseball is one of the most prominent and tradition-rich amateur athletic leagues in existence.  The program is growing in the State of Alabama.  Participation is easy so there’s ample opportunity for new players to join, for coaches who want to start a team, for umpires, and for individuals or groups interested in volunteering.

American Legion Baseball has a long history in Alabama. The league strives to provide a good mix of flexible schedules and good competition. The season typically begins after the academic school year ends which is near the Memorial Day holiday weekend. The state tournament is normally held in mid-July.  The season offers both full and part time play. The program has league focused teams, tournament teams and hybrid organizations.

Regular season and tournament games are held within the State of Alabama. The American Legion is run as a not for profit league with the goal of improving our young people within a positive, competitive environment while preparing our players for high school and collegiate level play.

The Baseball program offers opportunities in three age divisions: Junior Varsity, Varsity and 19U for state championships.

The Junior Varsity division is designed for the 9th grade and younger player in the current academic year.

The Varsity division is open for all players with at least one remaining season of High School athletic eligibility.

The 19U (Senior Division) division is designed for recent high school graduates and younger players with a possibility that some prior year graduated players may be eligible.

Alabama American Baseball is fundraising to provide this 6x6 All terrain Freedom Chair to a disabled veteran and defray costs of the 2022 Mid-South Regional Baseball Tournament 2-7 August 2022 in Pelham, AL. We are requesting financial assistance from the local American Legion Posts, businesses, and individuals. The funds raised will be used to supply the 6x6 Freedom Chair and defray costs for hosting the nearly 200 players and coaches from KS, MO, AR, OK, LA, MS and AL.

The Freedom Outdoor All-Terrain Wheelchair is the ultimate electric all-wheel drive 6x6 wheelchair. It is environmentally friendly, safe, quiet, tough and loaded with standard features. This rugged outdoor all-terrain wheelchair is designed to take you through most terrain that a person can walk on such as mud, sand, snow, and rocks. The chair's ability to operate seamlessly in both indoor and outdoor environments as well as fit though most standard sized doors, means the user can rely on one solution for mobility needs.

With two 24-volt 4-pole high-torque motors for outstanding low-speed torque, this all-wheel drive 6x6 has a total weight of 395 pounds and comes with a 12-volt accessory outlet as well as two 100-amp AGM batteries. The Freedom 6x6 has a 360-degree turning capacity from one stationary position. The run time varies depending on driving conditions, occupant weight, outside air temperature, and more, but about 3 hours of continuous run time can be expected. With built-in dynamic braking, electronic automatic parking breaks, as well as foot and leg area side protectors, Freedom 6x6 is the ultimate in safety. Battery charger is included. The maximum occupant weight for warranty is 250 pounds.

We will present this chair during the Mid-South American Legion Baseball Tournament August 2-7 2022 at Pelham High School.
